Class Announcements Unit 20Students are finishing up Unit 20 this week and have begun studying more and more root/base words, prefixes, and suffixes and the Latin meanings of each. This process REALLY helps develop their vocabulary and comprehension skills, but it does mean harder work and more memorization. Also, students will have a vocabulary test Thursday (or at the latest Friday) so they need to be studying! Tutoring is available with me in many subjects after school on any day except Thursday. Also, since Friday is FIF, students may stay for a tutoring session from 2:00 until 3:30.
UpdateThis week students are continuing to focus on verbs and sentence combining. However, now students are facing the more difficult task of learning the meaning of root words. For example, this week we learned that if "incredible" means "not able to be believed," then "credible" means "able to be believed" and "cred" means "to believe". These root word tasks are essential to making high schools on the ACT and are part of new English Standards handed down from the TN State Dept of Education.
